People like to surprise others with the unique and the unusual at Christmas. After all, it can get a little boring if you always receive the same pair of socks each year! It is definitely worth making the effort to be a little inventive and to think outside of the box for a moment. If you do, then you can be sure to put a huge smile on the face of the recipient. Here are a few ideas that I have found myself.

Hot Air Balloon Ride

A hot air balloon ride makes for a wonderful gift. Imagine crossing the countryside and simply floating along in the breeze.

Many people think that hot air balloon rides are only for summer but this is not true. If you pick a clear day and the operator has the right equipment then there will no problem at all in scheduling for this time of year.

What makes the balloon ride so good is that it can be a shared experience and exciting experiences are what give us treasured memories to hold on to for a long time.

Twilight Ladybug

This is a "toy" that was made to help kids who are afraid of the dark and also to make them easily fall asleep. It is a plush ladybug whose shell/casing glows internally and projects the night sky onto the ceiling. You can even spot the major constellations with the help of a small guide that comes with it. You can also get a model called the Twilight Turtle but the principle is the same.

Apparently, this toy has been a big hit with adults too. After reading about it, I think I want one too...

This is certainly an unusual gift but I'm not sure that someone would appreciate only getting this from you so it might be a good way to help fill their Christmas stocking but I don't advise giving it as your sole offering!

There are all manner of designs such as Christmas trees of Father Christmas or even reindeers. No doubt it will be needed after everyone has had their third helping of turkey...

Star Or Moon "Ownership"

These gifts are still growing strong. You get a certificate and coordinates of your own plot on the moon or your own star in the galaxy. These are not official or internationally recognised claims though. More than that, I can't help but feel that people are disappointed by gifts like these. I am sure that the givers meant well, but these sorts of gifts are a gimmick more than anything else so my advice is to avoid them and get something better instead.
